Gravitate is a go!

Less than a month ago, I first wrote about a group of startup community members in Des Moines working to establish a new entrepreneurial center of gravity in the heart of the city. Late last week we crossed the membership point where it's feasible for the project to work on a month-to-month basis. Today, I'm excited to announce that the project is officially moving forward (yeah!).

I'll plan on publishing a weekly update on the project starting today and throughout the summer as we approach our planned launch date on September 1.

Weekly Project Status

Name and tagline: Gravitate — an entrepreneurial center of gravity in Des Moines

Sponsorship

Thanks to BrownWinick — Attorneys at Law and the University of Iowa JPEC for being the first two organizations to help support the community getting this project off the ground. We still have work to do here to cover the total buildout cost and furnish the place.

If you're interested in supporting the project, see these options.

Coworking Members

We now have commitments from 25 coworking members who will be in the space on a regular basis. Included in that group are commitments for 7 of the 9 available offices.

If you're interested in joining as a coworker, see these options.

Social Members

We're up to 11 social members who have joined as founding members. Social members want to be a part of the community but aren't in a situation to cowork on a regular basis. They're from all across the Des Moines metro area and also in Ames, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.

If you're interested in being a social member, see the details here.

Construction Update

Build out starts this week! In future updates I'll include progress photos.

Geoff Wood has been helping tell the story of the Iowa startup community since 2009. In addition to writing here daily, he hosts a weekly podcast, speaks at conferences and organizes several events in the community.
