#IowaHour at SXSW recap
Another year, another SXSW, another great #IowaHour event.
This year hundreds of Iowans, Iowa Expats and others who are Iowa-curious stopped by the Startup Oasis (the temporary name for Old School Bar & Grill in the heart of Sixth Street). Big thanks to the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Workiva, the City of West Des Moines, The Greater Des Moines Partnership, Iowa's Creative Corridor, the Quad Cities and the 30+ members of Iowa's startup community that helped sponsor and produce the event.
The #IowaHour in full swing.
IEDA director, Debi Durham hands the mic to Riley Eynon-Lynch, CEO of Iowa City's Pear Deck after sharing they had just won a $150,000 investment from AOL co-founder Steve Case at a pitch event.
Iowa expat, Austin Lyons, who now lives in Austin, meeting with Josh Krakauer of Iowa City.
The #IowaHour was also the launch event for The Iowan Project, an initiative to identify and connect every Iowan whose life story has taken them beyond the state's borders.
Every attendee received a special edition RAYGUN t-shirt. "IOWA: Move here and start a company! I mean, what else you got going on?"
Fun side note, the 2014 #IowaHour was so much fun that inspired our friends in Albuquerque ("ABQ2SXSW Startup Community Showcase"), Colorado ("Colorado Party"), Dallas ("Dallas Drops the Mic") and Kansas City ("The Launch Party : A Kansas City Startup Community Celebration") to host similar functions at this year's festival.
One last thanks to the Iowa Economic Development Authority for engaging me to help promote and share this event with our community. I can't wait to see what's planned for the next #IowaHour.
