Adopt a Family this Holiday Season
It’s that time of year! To open our hearts and give to those in need.
Gravitate is going all out this holiday and we need your help. Our member Derek Brooks and his wife Kari have connected us with three local families (21 individuals) to learn what could make their holidays extra special. We've setup a Christmas tree at each Gravitate location where you can drop off presents to be given to the families detailed below.
In light of last year’s enormous success, we decided to make this an annual Gravitate event!
The W family
This family is cousins to one of the families who we supported last Christmas. The W family includes two parents and seven children — four boys and three girls. They are new to the country and are interested in all things Christmas. They have been in the United States for two years. When we asked them about being supported for Christmas, one of the boys excitedly asked, "You can get us blankets?!" Another one of the boys was so excited, but doesn't really have an understanding about how exciting Christmas can be, so he asked, "Can I talk to my friends to see what I should ask for??" ... Be still our hearts.
The K Family
This family is a mix of two families living together at this time. There are possibly 15-20 people living in the house right now. We decided to focus on the school age kids. The K family includes two parents, five children — four girls, one boy, and a baby girl on the way!
The A Family
This family is small, a Mom and two boys, 7 years and 7 months. The 1st grader is huge with personality! His smile lights up a room!
How can I help?
Help us surprise these families by donating money, buying a few gifts, or gift cards!
Like to shop?
Pick up items during your holiday shopping and drop them off at either Gravitate location under the Christmas tree! Be sure to let Abby or Kyle know *who* you purchased gifts for so we can keep the wish list updated! Click here for a detailed list of each family!
Hate to shop?
We get it — holiday shopping is crazy enough! Send funds to Abby Rowling via Venmo, Paypal, or Cash App with the message "Gravitate Donation Tree" and she will do the shopping for ya!
You can also drop off cash to Abby or Kyle at either Gravitate location. Please send monetary donations by Friday, December 14th as Kari and Abby plan to buy the gifts during the weekend!
Can I donate previously owned items?
We do ask that all the gifts donated are *new*.
What about books?
All three families requested books, so we are also accepting donated books. Feel free to bring your previously owned (in fair condition) books for all ages!
When is the deadline?
Friday, December 14th — this ensures that we have enough time to shop and sort the items before our rap party!
Can I help wrap gifts?
Yes of course! We will be hosting a Gangsta’ Wrap Party where we will sort and wrap the gifts for each family on Wednesday, December 19th. (DJ D Broox will be providing the rap playlist for this event.)
