The 5 people who cover Iowa startups

This post was put together as part of my presentation at EntreFEST last week called "Plugging Into Iowa’s Entrepreneurial Community".

For the last 43 weeks I’ve consistently scanned all the press there is to scan about the Iowa startup community to put together the Welch Avenue Weekly (a super cool news digest of the top three news items each week). That means looking at the big community newspapers (and the small), the local blogs and the national tech press as well as trolling a few lists of startup founders to see who is writing about their companies. What I’ve found through that process is that there are five people who consistently write about the startup community. There are many others who will occasionally write about it — for instance when a community hosts an event like a Startup Weekend that business reporter for the local paper will often cover that event.

The list below (alphabetical by publication). Each day, I'll publish a profile of how they cover the Iowa startup community beginning today with Kyle and ending Friday with myself (that's kind of weird).

Lunch and Learn

StartupCity Des Moines is hosting a "Meet the Press" Lunch and Learn on Thursday if you'd like to meet these people in person. Register (no cost) right here and then bring your lunch to 317 6th Avenue, 5th Floor) at noon.

Geoff Wood has been helping tell the story of the Iowa startup community since 2009. In addition to writing here daily, he hosts a weekly podcast, speaks at conferences and organizes several events in the community.
